Extended school

Knavesmire School enjoys a close and active relationship with the local Southbank community, and with the City of York.  We also strive to help students understand their place in the broader communities of Britain and the wider world.

Classroom learning is enhanced with regular educational trips around York: from the local baker, to the theatres and museums in town, to Yorkshire attractions like Wakefield Sculpture Park and the Scarborough Sea Life centre.  We also recognise the school is a community resource, and host a number of external activities on our site including Knavesmire Cool Kids Club, the Knavesmire Children’s Centre, and a variety of local clubs.

We also engage as members of our national community. Pupils visit London and other major cities as well and rural venues. These visits both enhance the learning opportunities of the curriculum and create a depth in experience of British Values. An empathy of national community is essential to developing a true understanding of school and local community.

Internationally, we run very successful partnerships with schools in Europe and further afield. In 2011 we received the International Schools Award for embedding international learning into the curriculum - an award that was revalidated in 2014. Well established partnerships such as that with El CIM School in Barcelona enable pupils to develop international relationships, experience cultural opportunities, and apply linguist skills in real-life settings.
